Carneiro named inaugural Thunderbirds Dance Coach
Oct 21, 2019
Halifax, Nova Scotia – The Thunderbirds have announced the hiring of Keli Carneiro as the inaugural Dance Coach for the Thunderbirds Dance Team. Carneiro comes to the Thunderbirds with many years of professional dance experience, specifically with two lacrosse teams; the Hamilton Nationals of the MLL, and the Toronto Rock.
"Lacrosse has been my favourite sport for a long time,” said Carneiro. “I had the chance to dance for two lacrosse teams in the past and live out my dream as a dancer, I now am looking forward to giving this team a chance to live out their dreams and to be a part of something special. This being the first professional lacrosse team in the Maritimes we will all get to be a small part of history!"
Born in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Carneiro moved to Canada in her young teens and has called Canada her true home since. With stops in Toronto, New Brunswick, and BC, Keli currently resides in Nova Scotia, as a musician in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserves. As part of the Canadian Forces, Carneiro served two deployments as part of the Naval security team.
“There are two goals I have always been sure I wanted to achieve in my life,” said Carneiro. “One, that I loved dance, music and performing; and wanted to make a living doing what I love and two, that I wanted to serve the country I now call home and be able to give back a little for all it has given me. I am lucky enough that through hard work and dedication I have been able to achieve both, and even luckier to get to mix the two. After auditioning for multiple professional sports dance teams and not making it, my dream of dancing on a professional team was finally realized and I have had the chance to dance for multiple professional teams now making some of the best memories and friends I will ever have."
The Thunderbirds will look to name their inaugural team later this month with tryout information to come. Stay tuned on HalifaxThunderbirds.com and all social media outlets for more information on how to try out to be a part of the inaugural team.
