Jul 30, 2023
HALIFAX, NS (July 30, 2023) – The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced that the team has added Andrew Suitor to the team’s coaching staff, taking over the defensive end of the floor.
“As a player, Suits was an ultimate leader and competitor. We look forward to Andrew bringing that leadership and compete back into our room as our D coach,” Thunderbirds Owner and General Manager Curt Styres said.
Suitor spent 11 years in the National Lacrosse League after being selected by the Minnesota Swarm in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2010 NLL Draft.
The Orangeville, Ontario product also spent time with the Thunderbirds’ organization during his playing days, joining the franchise for a season back in 2017 with the then Rochester Knighthawks.
He also spent time with the New England Black Wolves, Vancouver Stealth, before finishing out his career with the New York Riptide in 2020.
Suitor most recently spent time as a coach for the OJLL’s Orangeville Northmen in 2022, serving as the team’s defensive coach last summer.
He will serve in the same role for the Thunderbirds, working as a member of Mike Accursi’s bench staff.
“For me to sign in Halifax means the world to me. I’m ready to go to work and ensure we are prepared for everything that comes our way. Rejoining this group is something I’ve wanted to do and I hope to bring a new perspective and passion to the back door,” Suitor said. “This is an amazing opportunity that I’m extremely thankful for and plan on working as hard as possible to ensure the fans of The Nest get what they deserve.
“I think being away from the game as a player and watching every weekend has prepared me. I am going to study every film and ensure we are prepared each weekend.”
