Thunderbirds Announce Inaugural Captains

Dec 9, 2019

(HALIFAX, NS) Before the Thunderbirds innagural game in Halifax on Saturday, December 7th, Forward Cody Jamieson was named team captain. Defenseman duo Graeme Hossack and Scott Campell have been named as assistant captains.

"Our captains are role models for our team,” said Head Coach Mike Accursi.  “They work hard, push themselves every practice and every game. These are three guys I have a great deal of respect and admiration for.”

Jamieson will act as the Thunderbirds first captain but has been a part of the team’s franchise for 10 years. Hailing from Six Nations, Ontario like team owner Curt Styres, Jamieson has crafted a memorable NLL career. As the First Overall selection in the 2010 draft, Jamieson signed, at the time, the longest contract in NLL history, for 10 years, with the franchise. In his 2018-2019 season with the franchise Jamieson secured 30 goals and 57 assists, bringing in 87 points. Jamieson has previously been recognized as Offensive MVP three times in his career (2015, 2016, 2018-19) as well as being named the 2014 NLL MVP.

"It is a tremendous honour to be named captain of the Thunderbirds," said Jamieson.  "Everyone on our team has been in a leadership role in the past. These men are fun and easy to work with, so that makes my job and duties that much easier."

Defenceman Graeme Hossak of Port Perry, Ontario will be assisting in leading the Thunderbirds this season. Hossack is celebrating his fifth season in the NLL and fifth season with the franchise. Named team MVP for the 2018-2019 season, Hossack has also been recognized as the NLL Defensive Player of the Year for the past two seasons. Hossack ranked fifth for loose balls in the NLL (164) and has secured 25 caused turnovers last season. In addition to his impressive league rankings, Hossack started his pro career strong, being honoured as the NLL Rookie of the Year in 2016.

Fellow Defenceman Scott Campbell has also been named as an assistant captain. With 16 NLL seasons under his belt, Campbell has had remarkable professional career. Previously playing for Saskatchewan for part of the 2019 season, he had one goal, three assists and 19 loose balls in his eight game run. Campbell also played for Toronto from 2006-2011, playing 60 games with 16 goals, 18 assists and raking in 34 points, not to mention 244 loose balls. Moving into his time with the franchise, he collected 610 loose balls, had 34 goals along with 53 assists in his 140 games between 2011-2019.
