Aug 14, 2022
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (August 16, 2022) - The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced they have re-signed team captain and forward Cody Jamieson to a franchise player agreement for the 2022-23 NLL season.
Jamieson, 35, has spent 11 seasons in the NLL, all of them with the Thunderbirds franchise. The team drafted him first overall in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft out of Syracuse University, and after six-and-a-half seasons as an alternate captain, he was named team captain in March 2019 and has served in that role ever since.
Jamieson was an integral part of the team’s championship three-peat, winning the NLL Champion’s Cup from 2012-14. Each postseason, he led the team in scoring, recording 53 points (22G, 31A) in the 12 contests across those years. In the 2012 and 2013 NLL Finals, Jamieson was named the NLL Finals MVP, posting eight-point (4G, 4A) and five-point (3G, 2A) games, respectively.
"When Jammer goes we go," said Thunderbirds Owner and General Manager, Curt Styres. "He is the heart beat of this team. Cody is the best big game player in the world and looking forward to watching him continue his legacy in the up coming season."
After graduating from Syracuse University, Jamieson had his name called first at the 2010 NLL Entry Draft and has racked up the personal and team accolades steadily throughout his career. He posted 53 points (28G, 25A) in his rookie campaign, locking up NLL Rookie of the Year and All-Rookie Team honours in 2011.
In 2014, his 108-point (36G, 72A) campaign earned him the NLL MVP award and All-Pro First Team honours. He was named to the NLL All-Pro Second Team in 2012 and 2015 after posting 85 (36G, 49A) and 92 points (36G, 56A) points, respectively.
The left-hander out of Six Nations posted 60 points (17G, 43A) in 16 regular season games played, also collecting 62 loose balls and causing a pair of turnovers. In the postseason, he recorded five points (2G, 3A), four loose balls, and a caused turnover.
Jamieson has played in 166 regular season contests, and he has 823 points (298G, 525A), 658 loose balls, and 34 caused turnovers in his vaunted career. In 21 postseason games, the Thunderbirds captain has 90 points (35G, 55A), 63 loose balls, and three caused turnovers.
The left-hander’s name is easily found throughout the Thunderbirds franchise’s history and record books. He’s played in the sixth-most regular season games, is third in goals, second in assists and points, and ninth in loose balls. In addition to being a three-time NLL champion, Jamieson is tied for third-most postseason games played, second in goals, and first in assists and points in franchise history.
