Thunderbirds drop matinee affair to Swarm

HALIFAX, NS (April 2, 2023) -- The Halifax Thunderbirds fell short against the Georgia Swarm on Sunday afternoon, losing 17-7 at Scotiabank Centre.
The opening goal of the game was scored by the Thunderbirds, but the first half belonged to the visitors, who answered with seven straight goals.
Lyle Thompson knotted the game up at one before a pair from Brendan Bomberry vaulted Georgia two ahead. Jeremy Thompson added a fourth off the ensuing draw following the third goal to give all the momentum to the Swarm.
Shayne Jackson added a pair to open the second, and Bomberry completed the hat trick to make it a six-goal game. A Randy Staats power-play goal ended the run, but Andrew Kew scored at the end of the half to make it 8-2 following 30 minutes.
A six-goal third quarter saw the Swarm grow their lead further. Kew had a hat trick in the frame while Bomberry, Bryan Cole, and Jordan MacIntosh added on. After three, Georgia led 14-5.
Despite goals from Clarke Petterson and Jamieson in the fourth, The visitors salted away the clock after another trio from Thompson, Kew, and Jackson.
Following the loss, the Thunderbirds sit at 7-8 on the season. The team will have a bye week before returning to action on Apr 15 when they head on the road to take on the Saskatchewan Rush. Opening face-off will be at 10:30 p.m. AT.
