Thunderbirds extend Head Coach Mike Accursi

HALIFAX, NS (June 22, 2023) – The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced that the team has agreed to a one-year contract extension with Head Coach Mike Accursi. 

“I’m excited to continue the work that we started when the thunderbirds landed in Halifax,” Accursi said. “We have been close the last few years and have come up short of our goal of bringing a championship to the fans in Halifax. We will continue to re-tool and refocus and work towards those goals in the 2023-24 season. 

“Thanks again to Curt Styres for continuing to believe in me, and I look forward to what’s to come in the upcoming season.” 

Accursi has been at the helm for the Thunderbirds since the team moved to Halifax ahead of the 2019-20 campaign. In 30 games as a head coach, Accursi holds a 19-11 record. 

Before retiring in 2014, Accursi spent seven of his 17 NLL seasons as a member of the organization, helping the team to their three consecutive championships from 2012-2014.
