BACK TO BUILDING OUR LEGACY
The National Lacrosse League announced today, the league’s 35th Season will kick off December 3-4, as part of Faceoff Weekend. The 2021 opening weekend will be the first time teams will return to play since March 2020.
The Halifax Thunderbirds will return to Scotiabank Centre on Saturday, December 4th versus the Saskatchewan Rush. The Thunderbirds squared off against the Rush back in February 2020 in what was one of the most exciting games of their inaugural season. The game headed into dramatic overtime as the Thunderbirds and the Rush each had a goal waved off by the officials.
"Everyone is eager to get out and be entertained. The Thunderbirds are excited to put on a good show for the city of Halifax, and I think we’ve built a team that’s ready to do that,” said Thunderbirds Owner and General Manager Curt Styres. “We’re all creatures of habit. We like to go to games and be entertained. We’re all together on that, we all need that medicine.”
The Thunderbirds will be competing in the newly-revised Eastern Conference along with the Albany FireWolves, Buffalo Bandits, Georgia Swarm, New York Riptide, Philadelphia Wings, Rochester Knighthawks, and Toronto Rock.
The full NLL schedule including game times, as well as national broadcast showings, will be announced in the coming weeks. Each team will have 9 home games during the regular season, followed by the playoffs and the league championship series.
“I don’t have words to describe how excited we are about this announcement. Halifax has waited a long time for the National Lacrosse League to return to the Nest. We are ready to get back to building our legacy,” said Thunderbirds President & CEO John Catalano.
“We are thrilled to welcome the Thunderbirds and their fans back to the Nest this December,” said Carrie Cussons, president & CEO of Scotiabank Centre. “There is so much pent-up demand and excitement to see the team back on home turf since they wrapped up their incredible inaugural season; we are ready and can’t wait for another action-packed season!”
