Thunderbirds Sign Halifax Native Brian Huyghue

Halifax, Nova Scotia- The Halifax Thunderbirds have signed local product Brian Huyghue. He will be with the team as they play their first preseason game in Halifax on November 22.

 

“Brian is one of the best lacrosse players to come out of Nova Scotia,” said Head Coach Mike Accursi. “He had a tremendous career at Limestone where he won a NCAA championship in 2017. He recently played for Team Canada in the fall and once a training camp roster spot came available, we knew he was a guy we wanted to bring in to fight for a spot on this roster.”

 

Huyghue spent his collegiate career with NCAA Division II Limestone College from 2015-2019, where he played three seasons with the Saints. As a sophomore Huyghue played in 17 games, making six starts and finishing the year with eight goals, an assist, collected 11 ground balls and won the NCAA Division II Championship. As a junior Huyghue had a break out year, he played in 18 games, made eight starts, had a career high in goals (11), assists (11) and points (22) while collecting 24 ground balls.

 

To finish out his senior year, Huyghue played in 21 games, scoring 28 goals, 24 assists for a total of 52 points and collected 49 ground balls. Hughyhue was named to the Canadian Men’s Senior Field Lacrosse Team Roster for the 2019 Fall Classic in Baltimore, Maryland where the Canadian team competed against Team USA and the NCAA Division I champion University of Virginia.

 

Prior to going to Limestone, Huyghue played Junior A Box Lacrosse for the Halifax Southwest Hurricanes where he helped the team to four straight East Coast Junior Lacrosse League Championships.

 

“Signing with my hometown team in its first season is a dream come true,” said Huyghue. “It’s been exciting to see the growth of lacrosse in the province, which has been made possible because of the hard work and dedication of the Lacrosse Nova Scotia Community.”
