Thunderbirds Sign McNabb, Woods to One-Year Deals

Oct 2, 2023

(HALIFAX, NS) October 2, 2023 - The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced that the team has signed forwards Jake McNabb and Aaron Woods to one-year contracts.

McNabb, 25, was drafted to the Colorado Mammoth in 2019 and put up five points in his two games played during the shortened 2020 season. Prior to his NLL career, McNabb spent his Junior A days with Six Nations, St. Catharines, and Owen Sound. Throughout his 107 games, he took home three provincial titles, a Minto Cup, and put up 342 points (183 goals and 159 assists).

The right-handed forward spent his collegiate career at Onondaga Community College where he helped his team to back-to-back national championships. McNabb put up 51 points in 29 games, including the game-winning goal in the 2017 Championship game.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to compete for a spot and represent the city of Halifax,” McNabb said. “I’ve spent time in the city growing the game through camps so I understand the passion the East Coast has for the game.”

Woods, 29, finished up his season with the Coburg Kodiaks (MSL) with 44 points in 21 games played. Woods previously was a member of the Peterborough Timbermen (ALL East), and took home the 2022 MVP award after amassing 36 goals, and 25 assists.

“I am extremely excited for this incredible opportunity with the Thunderbirds,” Woods said. “Playing in the NLL is something I have always dreamed of, and I look forward to learning from all the great talents in the Halifax organization.”
