Thunderbirds sign Nonkon Thompson to three-year extension

HALIFAX, NS (July 31, 2023) – The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced that the team has signed defender Nonkon Thompson to a three-year contract extension. 

"First and foremost, I’m ecstatic that Nonkon is healthy. He brings so much to this group he is a key piece," Thunderbirds defensive coach Andrew Suitor said. "I can’t wait to watch him grow and I believe the sky is the limit for him."

Thompson, 23, has been a part of the Thunderbirds’ organization since their inaugural season in Halifax in 2019-20. He was originally selected by the franchise in the third round (38th overall) of the 2019 NLL Draft. 

An Akwesasne, NY product, Thompson posted a career-best 10 points and 37 loose balls to go along with two caused turnovers during the 2022 campaign.  

He did not appear in any games for the Thunderbirds during the 2022-23 season due to injury. 

In 20 career games, Thompson has three goals and 11 points along with 67 LB and nine CTOs.

“Rehab has been the toughest thing to do this past year, Which makes coming home to The Nest even more special,” Thompson said of signing the extension. “We still have unfinished business.
