Thunderbirds Sign Radziewicz, Haigh, Berglof, to one-year deals

(HALIFAX, NS) October 4, 2023 – The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced that the team has signed defenders Cody Radziewicz, Colin Berglof, and forward Gareth Haigh to one-year contracts.

Radziewicz, 28, has spent time in the National Lacrosse League with the New York Riptide, appearing in 12 games during the 2020 season, posting two goals and six points over that span. 

The Manlius, NY product spent his collegiate career with Johns Hopkins. He suited up in 63 career games for the Blue Jays, finishing his four years with 38 goals and 55 points. 

“I’m excited and thankful for the opportunity to join the Thunderbirds organizations,” Radziewicz said. “I cannot wait to get to camp and start to work with such a talented and experienced group of guys.” 

Haigh, 23, played Junior A lacrosse for the Mimico Mountaineers, appearing in 36 career games for his hometown team. 

Over parts of four seasons, he had 41 goals and 80 points. His best summer came in 2019, with 30 goals and 53 points for Mimico. He followed that up with 21 points in 10 games during his final junior year in the OJLL bubble. 

Haigh also played Division I lacrosse at Cleveland State University, where he played as a goaltender.

“Joining the Thunderbirds is a dream come true,” Haigh said. “Since I started playing in Mimico 16 years ago it’s always been a goal to reach the NLL. I’m so thankful to the organization for giving me the chance to do so.” 

Berglof was originally selected by the Saskatchewan Rush in the fourth round (57th overall) of the 2019 NLL Draft. 

The 24-year-old product of Saskatoon, SK spent his entire junior career in the RMLL with the Saskatchewan SWAT, producing 67 goals and 139 points in 54 Junior A games. 

This past summer, Berglof played for the Edmonton Miners of the Sr RMLL, helping the team to a Pressident’s Cup Silver Medal finish. 

In the tournament, Berglof appeared in eight games, ending with 16 points – with seven of those being goals.

“Halifax is a great organization from top to bottom and has had so much success over the years,” Berglof said. “They’ve got terrific coaching and great players. I’m excited for the opportunity to learn from all of them, and get to work.” 

The Thunderbirds open the 2023-24 season at home on December 1, when they welcome the Saskatchewan Rush to Scotiabank Centre.
