Thunderbirds, Trevor Smyth agree to two-year extension
Jun 13, 2023
HALIFAX, NS (June 14, 2023) – The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced that the team has signed defender Trevor Smyth to a two-year contract extension.
"Happy to have Trevor signed for another two years," said Owner and General Manager Curt Styres. "Trevor is as steady of a defender as they come. Rarely will you ever see him out of position and he is relied upon to shut down the other team in the biggest moments of a game with that calm confidence he has."
Smyth, 28, was selected by the Thunderbirds with the 14th overall pick in the 2019 NLL Draft. He has played each of his first three years as a professional in Halifax.
During his time with the Thunderbirds, Smyth has been a constant in the lineup, missing just a single game during his time with the organization.
In 2023, he finished with three points along with a career-high 51 loose balls and 13 caused turnovers. He also took just a single penalty in 17 games while playing as a key cog in the Thunderbirds’ defence.
Across 46 career games, Smyth has accumulated two goals, nine points, 146 loose balls, and 23 caused turnovers.
“I’m extremely excited to be back for two more years. Halifax is an incredible place, we have something truly special happening here,” Smyth said. “I can’t wait to be back playing in front of our fans and working to bring a championship to Halifax.”
