Aug 5, 2021
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (August 5, 2021) - The Halifax Thunderbirds today announced the organization has hired Tom Borrelli Award winner Tyson Geick as Director of Communications. Geick will also serve as the team’s Sideline Reporter during Thunderbirds home games.
“I am so excited to join the Thunderbirds family,” Geick said. “The members of this organization, from the front office to the coaching staff and players, laid down phenomenal groundwork during the team’s inaugural season. From the moment I joined the team at the 2020 NLL Entry Draft, I knew that something special was going on. I now get the chance to join an organization that will build a legacy, and that is an opportunity I am extremely grateful for.
“I would like to thank Curt Styres, John Catalano, Tracy Johnson, and Charlie Ragusa for this opportunity. I look forward to calling the city of Halifax home and can’t wait to get to work. I am confident that our staff will provide the best coverage of a team that this league has ever seen in 2021-22 and in years to come.”
Geick won the prestigious Tom Borrelli Award, provided to the NLL’s media person of the year, in 2019 for his coverage of the league. He worked for the NLL as the league’s Host, Reporter and Producer for two seasons before creating “Lacrosse Flash,” a subsidiary of his company Flash Media House and a media outlet dedicated to covering lacrosse at the professional and amateur levels.
In his role with the Thunderbirds, Geick will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing marketing and branding strategies to better enhance public understanding of the Thunderbirds and the franchise’s value to sports and community in Halifax. He will also plan and implement numerous communications and community engagement initiatives, as well as assist with social media and campaign management.
Out of Newmarket, Ontario, Geick has a B.A. Hons. in Sociology from Queen’s University. He also has his Master of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism from Quinnipiac University.
