May 8, 2024
(HALIFAX, NS) May 8, 2024 – The National Lacrosse League today announced that the Halifax Thunderbirds’ own Jake Withers has been named as a finalist for the league’s Transition Player of the Year Award.
“Jake embodies the relentless spirit of the Halifax Thunderbirds,” Thunderbirds Owner and General Manager Curt Styres said. “His dedication, skill, and tenacity have propelled him to the forefront of the league’s best year after year. Being named a finalist by the league's general managers and coaches is a testament to his commitment to excellence. We anticipate his continued success both on and off the floor.”
It was a record-setting year for the Peterborough, Ontario product, who set a new career high in goals (7) while tying his career-high in points (16). Withers was also his usual dominant self when it came to recovering the ball, leading the league in face-off wins (360), face-off win percentage (74%), and loose balls (282).
Withers set the single-season NLL record for loose balls this year, surpassing the previous high held by Jay Thorimbert (246) while also finishing nearly 100 loose balls ahead of the second-best player league-wide.
